Emergency Medicine is the specialty dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses or injuries which require immediate or urgent medical attention. It is also a key specialty involved in the planning and preparation for dealing with various emergency medical conditions as well as major incidents and public health alerts.
The Emergency Department at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital provides a comprehensive accident and emergency service for the South Bedfordshire District which has a population of approximately 350,000.
Orthopaedics and Trauma is part of the Surgery Division at the L&D.
The restoration and development of the skeletal system, joints and muscles and this has been one of the key specialty areas at the L&D since its foundation in 1939.
Today we provide a comprehensive range of musculoskeletal healthcare, from orthopaedic medicine to complex surgery, delivered by some of the UK's top orthopaedic specialist consultants.
The L&D Inpatient Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy Service comprises of 38 physiotherapists, twelve occupational therapists and twenty six assistants/technical instructor support staff covering all major ward areas and community paediatric physiotherapy. Each team is led by a specialist physiotherapist and/or occupational therapist.
